In honor of the ACLU’s 50 years of struggle defending civil liberties in our great state, the Salt Lake Art Center has organized Liberties Under Fire. This exhibition features five artists whose artwork relates civil liberties issues addressed by the ACLU.
To provide informed and unique perspectives about each specific civil liberty issue, Utah-based authors have been invited to write short personal essays. And to place these artworks and essays in a legal framework, the ACLU of Utah staff has provided “constitutional captions,” which relate each specific issue area to its underpinnings in the U.S. Constitution.
Join us on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, when the show opens as part of Salt Lake's Gallery Stroll. Not only will you be among the first to see amazing works by these nationally- and internationally-known artists, you will also be there for the world premier of the ACLU of Utah's new short video. This video will feature important local voices on Utah's civil liberties challenges, and powerful voices from the ACLU of Utah's past. Don't miss it!
