Intern or Volunteer with the ACLU of Utah

The ACLU of Utah operates through public education, legal advocacy, litigation, and lobbying at both the state and local levels to ensure the constitutional rights and freedoms of everyone living in or visiting Utah. Our work is based on those principals outlined in the Bill of Rights, and our priorities include: Participatory Democracy; Racial Justice; Immigrants' Rights; Religious Liberty & Freedom of Belief; and Privacy & Technology. In addition, we continue our commitment to reform the Utah criminal justice system, protect the First Amendment, reproductive freedoms, and equality for all.

Because of our limited resources and small staff, we rely heavily on our dedicated interns and volunteers to assist us in fulfilling our important work. Our interns provide an important service to our organization and we strive to make the experience beneficial for our interns as well. Our intern positions are unpaid, but we are willing to work with your school to help you obtain credit.

We normally have openings for 1-2 legal interns, 1-2 paralegal interns, 1 legislative & policy intern and, sometimes, 1 development intern and 1 Office Intern. We appreciate interns who are able to commit to at least 5 -10 hours a week for three months or a semester.

To apply for a intern position please fill out our application so that we may understand your skills, interests and availability. This should be submitted with a cover letter, updated resume, three professional or academic references, and a writing sample.
