Moving Justice Forward For 60 Years!

Caroline Emmitt, Intake Coordinator

Caroline joined the ACLU staff in August 2020 after returning to her native Utah after several years of studying and working outside the state in the fields of social work and public health.

While earning a Master of Social Work degree from Columbia University, Caroline worked at The Legal Aid Society, rotating among several departments including the Special Litigation Unit, the Women's Pre-Trial Release Initiative, and the Community Justice Unit, where she attended City Council hearings, created policy briefs, and organized rallies.

Caroline’s interest in social work extends back to undergraduate years, which she spent at the University of Missouri, where she received a Bachelor of Social Work degree. As an undergraduate, Caroline also worked in the foster care system, public housing, women's health advocacy, and a healthcare non-profit agency.  She also conducted research and helped found an LGBTQ+ alliance.

Working at the ACLU is a dream come true for Caroline. She is very passionate and eager to get to work in social justice. She could not be more excited to be back home and working to make the communities of Utah a better, more just place for all.
