Immigrants' Rights Policy Fellow

ACLU of Utah, Salt Lake City

The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah seeks to hire a passionate and innovative full-time Immigrants’ Rights Policy Fellow to assist with policy and advocacy efforts supporting immigrant and refugee communities across Utah. This position will primarily focus on conducting factual research, policy analysis, and advocacy work related to language access.

This one-year fellowship is designed for an individual early in their career who is interested in learning more about policy and advocacy at a local, state, and federal level. This position will report to the Senior Staff Attorney and work in close collaboration with our policy team, outreach team, and other staff members across the organization.

Spring 2023 Legal Externship

Short Description

The ACLU of Utah is accepting applications from law students for 1 for-credit legal extern position.

  • Time Commitment: The extern is expected to commit between 10-15 hours per week for 12 weeks. The hours and duration of the externship can be accommodated to comply with school policy.
  • Location: The externship will be hybrid with primarily remote work and some part-time in-person meetings and work in office.
  • Required: Externs selected for the program will register with their law schools for academic or pro bono credit. We are unable to provide externships for any student that is unable to receive credit from their respective law school. This externship is for-credit only and will not receive monetary compensation.

As a state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Utah operates through a model of integrated advocacy, using litigation, legislative efforts, policy advocacy, and community engagement as mutually supportive tactics to advance civil rights for everyone in Utah.

Application materials must be submitted as a PDF file. In the subject line of the email, applicants should include their full name and Spring 2023 Externship. In their cover letter, applicants should include details describing their interest in civil rights and civil liberties. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until positions are filled. We will begin reviewing applications and interviewing candidates the week of October 24, 2022.

Legal Internship

Summer 2023

The ACLU of Utah is accepting applications for two paid legal internships. The internships are a 10-week period. Summer interns are expected to start on or around May 30, 2023. The ACLU of Utah does provide a stipend
for students who can commit to working 40 hours a week for 10 weeks during the summer. Students who receive outside funding may be eligible for a partial stipend.

  • Rising 2Ls will be eligible for a minimum stipend of $6,000
  • Rising 3Ls will be eligible for a minimum stipend of $7,000
