Press Conference Against New Abortion Ban (4/10/19)

Exactly 28 years ago, the ACLU of Utah filed a lawsuit that eventually overturned an unconstitutional 20-week abortion ban passed by the Utah Legislature. This week we're doing it again.

We are suing the state to ensure that all Utah women remain free to make personal medical decisions without governmental interference. We will seek a preliminary injunction to stop H.B. 136 from taking effect in May – with the eventual goal of securing a permanent injunction.

We believe the decision to continue or end a pregnancy is one that must be made by a woman in discussions with those she trusts, including her physician, family, and faith leaders, not by politicians.

We will soon be in court alongside our Planned Parenthood partners to defend that right for all women in Utah.
