Where does the ACLU of Utah stand on people seeking asylum?

Seeking asylum is a legal and human right.

Turning our backs on asylum seekers at the southern border today is a betrayal of our promise and obligation to those fleeing persecution, violence, war, and human rights violations across the world.

Xenophobic, fear-based narratives that the border is “open” are outlandishly false. Under President Biden, it is nearly as difficult to seek asylum at the border as it was during the Trump administration.

Collectively, these policies have caused needless suffering and death at the border. With so many barriers to seeking asylum already in place, the last thing we need is more restrictions and penalties for people fleeing violence and persecution.
