—Members of our LGBTQ+ community are a vital part of Utah's social fabric. We are stronger as a state and a nation when we recognize the value of our diverse family, friends, and neighbors and support their freedom of expression and visibility.
The celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride in June is rooted in the struggle for equal rights and freedoms by this community, including the Stonewall protests. The ACLU of Utah staunchly supports the ongoing effort to advance LGBTQ+ rights and will continue to defend the infringement of these rights by governmental actors.
When the ACLU of Utah protects your rights, that means protecting everyone’s rights. This is especially true for communities who have been historically marginalized, attacked, and silenced regardless of their commitment to family, community, and country. At a time when we should all be coming together to celebrate the promise of our country's founding, this statement furthers divisions. We send love and light to our LGBTQ+ community this June and invite all Utahns to celebrate Pride loud and proud!
Brittney Nystrom, Executive Director, ACLU of Utah.
