NOTICE: We appreciate your interest in applying to be an Intake Volunteer. We are currently at capacity. We do encourage those interested in applying to submit a General Volunteer application. Check back here in the future for when more Intake Volunteer positions open up.

Do you want to help our legal department? We’re accepting intake volunteers to help review legal claims and assist the legal department. You will be one of the first people that helps people when they have a legal claim!

Intake volunteers directly address the needs of fellow Utahns who contact the ACLU and help us analyze and dissect civil rights and criminal justice matters. Our office receives around 100 complaints monthly, allowing volunteers to collaborate with the ACLU of Utah's legal team on various issues. Volunteers read each letter/complaint, enter it into our intake system, and, under the supervision of the Paralegal, respond to each letter.

Things to know before applying:

  • We ask that the volunteer commit between 6-10 hours a week for three months.
  • We provide training to volunteers.
  • This position is unpaid and works under the supervision of our Paralegal.
  • Although not necessary, you are encouraged to submit a resume and writing sample along with this application.
